The Indian endoscopy devices market is growing while the average price of scopes is decreasing. The market is driven by the rising prevalence of chronic diseases, private healthcare services, and medical tourism. This growth is primarily attributed to the expanding healthcare facilities and the increase in the number of procedures.

India has less than 1.3 operation theaters (OTs) per 100,000 people, which is half of the 2.6 OTs per 100,000 people in Southeast Asia. India has just over 1 bed per 1,000 persons, which is significantly lower than the WHO guideline of 3.5 beds per 1,000 persons. Although public hospitals accounted for 44% of the total hospitals and 41% of the hospital beds in the country, the private sector is the major provider of healthcare services and accounts for 80% of the total outpatient and 60% of the total inpatient care.

Urban areas (covering 27% of the population) have above 20 times higher bed density than rural areas, with 75% of the health infrastructure and resources (physicians, hospitals, hospital beds). The average size of private hospitals/nursing homes in India is 40 beds, with over 85% of the private hospitals housing less than 30 beds. Public hospitals, which account for 44% of the total hospitals, supply only 31% of the OTs in India. Private hospitals, which serve the major part of the population in urban areas, are expanding into small tier 2 and 3 cities, which will boost the number of patient visits and the number of minimally invasive procedures conducted. In addition, the growth of medical colleges has been rapid. India plans to establish many new medical universities / educational institutions over the next 10 years, which will help to meet the projected huge shortage of 600,000 doctors. Thus, expanding hospital capacity will increase the volume of patients and surgical procedures and assist in driving market growth.

Cancer, which is one of the leading causes of death in India, accounts for around 650,000 deaths at present. By 2035, cancer incidence in the country is projected to rise to 1.7 million, whereas the number of cancer deaths is estimated to rise to 1.2 million. Minimally invasive procedures for cancer treatment are expected to increase over the next 3-5 years.

This insight focuses on the Indian endoscopy devices market, and it offers in-depth coverage of the urology, general surgery, gynecology, and imaging and energy system segments. It also provides a detailed overview of devices and procedures, using data from both secondary and primary interviews with key industry participants. The forecast period runs through to 2019.
