The global continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) market is undergoing a fundamental transformation as the technology evolves from a prescription-led glucose monitoring device into an AI-connected metabolic intelligence ecosystem. Market expansion is increasingly driven by the emergence of over-the-counter (OTC) CGM, growing adoption among non-insulin Type 2 diabetes and wellness populations, advances in AI-enabled glucose analytics, and integration with automated insulin delivery (AID) and connected diabetes management platforms. These developments are broadening the addressable population while shifting the value proposition from standalone glucose measurement toward personalized insights, behavioral guidance, treatment optimization, and improved health outcomes.

Technology innovation is also reshaping the competitive landscape. Manufacturers are advancing sensor miniaturization, longer wear duration, implantable monitoring, continuous connectivity, and increasingly autonomous monitoring to reduce user burden and improve sustained engagement. At the same time, interoperability is emerging as a critical competitive dimension, with CGM increasingly serving as the data layer connecting sensors, insulin pumps, algorithms, digital health platforms, and nutrition and behavioral applications. Competitive leadership is therefore shifting beyond sensor accuracy toward ecosystem capabilities, data intelligence, accessibility, and differentiated user experiences.

Despite these opportunities, market growth remains constrained by device and recurring sensor costs, reimbursement limitations, accuracy and reliability considerations, fragmented interoperability, and user adherence challenges. As CGM expands into less-intensive and consumer populations, affordability, simplified onboarding, ease of use, and sustained engagement will become increasingly important to adoption.

Against this backdrop, three high-potential growth pathways emerge: expanding CGM demand beyond traditional diabetes management through consumer and OTC models; strengthening its role in connected and automated diabetes care; and improving adoption and access through longer-duration, lower-burden monitoring. Collectively, these shifts indicate that the next phase of CGM growth will be shaped not only by advances in sensing technology but also by the industry's ability to integrate access, intelligence, interoperability, usability, and outcomes into a broader metabolic care proposition
