The APAC network security market saw a healthy YoY growth of 19.7% in Q1 2021, indicating a strong recovery from the YoY decline of 7.3% Q1 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The network firewall segment remained the biggest technology segment and is likely to continue driving the overall network security market.
Though 2020 saw a spike in investment as providers scaled up services to meet the sudden increase in demand for secure remote-access solutions, the SSL VPN segment registered a flat growth of 0.8% in Q1 2021, as customers were careful to take strategic decisions to support work requirements.
The IDS&IPS segment experienced a healthy recovery in Q1 2021 with a YoY growth of 14.4%, compared to the YoY decline of 6.5% in Q1 2020. The regulatory environment in China ensured strong demand in 2021, and the country contributed 45.5% to the IDS&IPS revenue in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the demand for stand-alone IDS&IPS will gradually decrease, as the technology is increasingly being featured on other integrated security platforms, such as UTM and NGFW.
