Despite a strong rebound in the first half of 2021, YoY growth in the APAC network security market witnessed a slowdown in Q4 2021. The market achieved a steady YoY growth of 8.2% in Q4 2021, driven by the strong growth in South Korea, ANZ, and Japan.
Firewall remained the biggest technology segment; its double-digit year-over-year growth rate of 11.6% in Q4 2021 was the strongest of all segments. Next-generation firewall (NGFW) continued to witness stronger growth momentum as most organizations prioritized achieving simplicity and efficiency through the platform approach.
The growth of SSL VPN has slowed down in 2021 ever since the exceptional business performance achieved during the pandemic in 2020. Though growth has decline at the rate of 8.2%, the introduction of zero trust network access (ZTNA) will strengthen the growth momentum of this segment, as some organizations have already begun replacing a portion of their existing SSL VPN solutions with ZTNA. The growth of the IDS/IPS segment declined at 4.6% in Q4 2021. Demand continues to slow down as organizations shift to a platform approach where the IDS/IPS technology is featured on firewall platforms, such as NGFW.
